i’d like to think so. i haven’t had the chance to do so as a phd student i’m afraid, but I think over the next year i will be given a bit more responsibility in the lab and the chance to prove myself. In the past, i have always opted to be a part of school, college, uni committees and that’s given me lots of experience and i’m hoping to go on management courses soon that will tell me how to do by the book, but I think life experience is the best teacher.
I’m a bit like Arttu – I don’t really seek out the responsibility to be in charge of other people. It’s a bit weird in science because you have to pick up the leadership skills as you go along.
