When I was at university, i was a student member of the IOP which was really useful because of the free magazine and all the talks and resources that were available. I’m now a postgraduate student member (and also a newly elected commitee member of the physics communicators group wooo) and I’m still using the resources a lot. I’d defo recommend it if you’re thinking about it (i think they’ve got a very affordable membership rate for younger students as well). Plus it looks good on the CV 🙂
yeah, I was also a student member of the IOP. There is also a yearly IOP high energy physics conference, which I went to as a student and gave a talk at. It’s quite a good conference for UK students to give talks at – it helps them to get jobs and suchlike.
I have been a member for quite some time, although not a very active one. I think they are doing a good job, and the student membership is good value for money.
