• Question: How many people would it take to lift up a double decker bus on the moon?

      I was in the pub earlier with some other physicists and we estimated the answer to this to be “about 15.” The justification for that is that a bus must have a mass of about 10 tons, and each person can lift about 50-100 Kg on Earth, so on Earth you would need somewhere between 100-200 people to lift the bus completely off the ground. Gravity on the Moon is about 1/6 of that on Earth, so you would need about 1/6 the number of people, i.e. 15-30 people.
