• Question: What is RAL like? Is it mainly a working laboratory?

      It’s a really big science campus, with 3 major research facilities (Diamond, ISIS and Central Laser Facility) and a few smaller departments as well. As well as the actual laboratories and research areas, there are loads of offices for all the academics who work on site like myself and the people who help run the research council (managers, admin, HR etc) But there’s also a hotel for visiting scientists, a restaurant, a social club……. it’s like a small science village ha! check out some of the Backstage Science youtube films here: http://www.youtube.com/user/BackstageScience they’ll give you an idea of what the labs and buildings on site look like.
