It’s not ideal using earphones as loud speakers because speakers tend to be inefficient at radiating sound with a wavelength much longer than the size of the speaker. This is fine for earphones when in your ear because the sound doesn’t need to be very loud, but for loudspeakers you really want something a bit bigger – amplification alone won’t do the business. If you did amplify the sound enough you would probably damage the earphones by over-extending them.
