      The Earth will become uninhabitable approximately 1 billion years from now due to the growth of the Sun. I guess this could be avoided if an intelligent species such as humans were able to engineer a way to alter the Earth’s orbit, which doesn’t seem too hard given how much time we would have to solve the problem.

      The Earth will continue to exist even after it becomes uninhabitable. Eventually the Sun will swell up to engulf the Earth’s current orbit, but the Earth’s orbit will by then have a larger radius due to loss of energy. So it is not known exactly whether the the Earth as a planet will survive or be destroyed.
